The Salso River Valley

The River Salso (also known as the Imera Meridionale) rises in the Madonie Mountains, passes through the provinces of Enna, Caltanissetta and Agrigento, and flows into the plain of Licata.

Its salty waters have created a rugged and strong land. It was amongst these sierras and dusty roads that I saw my first Cane Corso. It was in this valley where my vision of this beautiful race was created.

1974

My first encounter with the Italian mastiffs was in 1974. In Naples I purchased Giada, a grey brindle female of Neapolitan Mastiff, whereas in Palermo, among the old town markets, I found Nerone, a fiery black brindle male.

First years

My true passion for Cane Corsos came around the end of the ‘90s. The founders of the Valle del Salso kennel were Attila and Etna. The former was found abandoned in the fields of Agrigento and he was registered to the Italian stud book as a first generation dog in 2001.

The latter was the wildest female of a litter of 12 fiery puppies born and raised in a mechanic's workshop in the historical center of Palermo. With Etna, my first modern Cane Corso, it was love at first sight.

A turning point in the breeding program I was carrying out occurred with the introduction of Dyrium’s bloodlines thanks to the work and participation of Luigi di Rienzo.

Nik from the Valle dei Lord was my first Italian Champion and an unreplaceable breeder. Its legacy is still visible in its heirs.
